A person with a sweaty foot is someone who likely to get Athletes foot. Also, people who regularly hit the gym, wear closed shoes all the time can get affected by Athletes foot. Athletes’ foot is a fungal infection found in between the toes. It is contagious and can be spread to the hands. The medical term for Athletes foot is Tinea pedis. It is called as athlete’s foot because it mostly affects the athlete.

Since it is a fungal infection, it can spread to other parts of the body. It can be contracted by direct contact from the infected person. The fungus can be mostly found in a wet and damp place such as locker room, showers and around swimming pool.

Risk Factors

Home Remedies To Treat Athlete’s Food

There are some home remedies along with some easy medications which are available Over The Counter.

1. Hydrogen Peroxide

The antiseptic nature of hydrogen peroxide will disinfect the affected area and prevent further infection. Mix equal parts of 3% hydrogen peroxide with water and apply with the help of cotton pads to the affected area. Use it 2-3 times a day. Note- it will sting while application.

2. OTC Medications

OTC medications include powders, ointments and spray for the curing the Athletes foot. You can consult a pharmacist or a doctor which one suits you better. Apply as directed for better results.

3. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has antimicrobial and antifungal properties. Along with other infections, tea tree oil is extensively used for Athletes foot. Mix equal amount of tea tree oil with a carrier oil such as coconut oil to the affected area until the infection wears off. The concentration of tea tree oil should be 20-50%.

4. Neem Oil

Both neem leaves and neem oil are equally effective in fighting the fungal infection. The incredible antifungal properties of neem will fight the Athletes foot. Massage the oil directly to the affected area.

5. Rubbing Alcohol

Like hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol will sting too. It works well to disinfect the area and keep it dry. Use directly to the affected area or use a mixture of 70% rubbing alcohol and 30% of water and soak your feet for 30 minutes.

6. Garlic

Garlic smell strong but very effective to cure Athletes foot. Just crush some garlic pods and apply to the affected area.

7. Epsom Salts

Epsom salts have antifungal and antibacterial properties. It actually inhibits the growth of the fungus. It is easy, at-home remedy, and just soak your feet in Epsom salt with warm water mixture.

8. Talcum Powder

Talcum powder will help keep the area dry and clean. Talcum powder sucks out the moisture from the affected area and hence no more damp feet.

9. Vicks

Vicks is an excellent way to keep away cough. But the presence of menthol and eucalyptus oil is a good antifungal in itself. Apply Vicks to the affected area by massaging in it.

10. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is great for antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. Also, it is moisturizing, hence no more dry and itchy feet. Apply regularly till infection wears off.
